Scouting Lead Workflow
Downloading & sharing Pit Scouting assignments
While online, the scouting lead should follow the usual Scoutradioz processes to set up 'scouting pairs' and assign the pairs to pit scouting.
Once the pit assignments have been generated, the scouting lead can use the Lead sync menu option, 'Server' tab, to get to the sync page and download the pit scouting assignments.
With this data cached on the scouting lead's device, they can generate a QR code via the 'Show QR' tab choosing “Users & team nicknames”.
The scouts on their devices will use the Scout sync option, 'Scan' tab, to receive the list of teams and pit assignments.
Receiving and syncing pit scouting data
- As scouts are completing pit scouting, the scouting lead can scan the QR codes that their devices are generating and collect the cached data on their own device.
- Periodically they can sync that data back to the cloud.
Receiving QR codes and syncing to the cloud are covered in more detail below relating to Match Scouting.
Downloading & sharing Match Scouting assignments
Later, once the match schedule has been released, the scouting lead should go back to where there is signal and follow the usual processes to generate match assignments.
Once the match assignments have been generated, the scouting lead can use the Lead sync menu option, 'Server' tab, to get to the sync page and download the match schedule and match scouting assignments.
With this data cached on the scouting lead's device, they can generate a QR code via the 'Show QR' tab choosing “Match scouting”.
- The scouting lead can share a variable number of matches into the future
- Basically, find a number which is about as high as you can go but where the scouts' devices can still scan the QR code (some devices may do better at scanning than others)
Receiving data from the scouts
You don't need to scan the QR codes as soon as they're being generated - it is possible to scan a batch of QR codes if needed - but we highly recommend that the scouting lead scans all six scouts' QR codes at the end of every match.
- This simplifies keeping track of the data and keeps the QR exchanges from becoming overly onerous
In the Lead sync pages, use the “Scan” tab to read a scout's QR data.
As data is being scanned in, the scouting lead's view of the matches will update to reflect the data sync status…
- Scouting forms for a given team in a given match which have been synced to the cloud are shown as grey
- Scouting forms which have been scanned by the scouting lead BUT which have not yet been synced to the cloud appear slightly grey with a dotted-line border
- Missing (or not yet scanned) data is still blue or red
Periodically (it doesn't have to be every match, but ideally you'd do it ahead of your own team's next qualifying match) the scouting lead should go to where they can get signal and upload the newest collected data to Scoutradioz.
The scouting lead's device will now show that these data points have been synced to Scoutradioz (buttons are grey now).
And we also see in Scoutradioz that the data is in the system.
Running analytics while online
After these periodic uploads, it's probably handy to pull up in a tab on your device the Drive Team Dashboard for your team's next qualifying match.
The dashboard will show analytics immediately leveraging the data you just uploaded (or have been uploading).
Likewise, after all qualifiers are complete you can pull up the Alliance Selection screens while using signal, and bring that screen back into the Faraday Cage for use during the alliance selection process.
