Qualifications
Introduction
What is the purpose of qualifications?
Team 102's Qualification System is designed to make it easy for students to talk about their accomplishments as a Gearhead. During their time on the team, students learn a great deal about the various aspects of building a robot. The hard work that goes into obtaining this knowledge should be recognized.
As students participate, they will earn qualifications along the way. The more they learn, the higher the qualification. Students will track the qualifications they earn on a card that they can carry with them at competitions. These cards can serve as a great conversation starter with judges to share what the team has done to help set students up for success in a STEM field.
The qualifications also make it easy to explain to family and friends what students do as a member of Team 102 by providing a structure to indicate how advanced they have become in any given area.
Structure of a Qualification:
Qualifications indicate how much knowledge and experience a student has gained in a specific area on the team. Students can become qualified in Mechanical, Electrical, and Programming. Each Qualification has criteria that must be met before earning the Qualification. The criteria met by a student will determine the degree to which level a student is qualified. These levels include Basic, Advanced, and Expert.
As students get more involved in the build process, they will find that there are many areas they can focus on within a sub-team. These are called Specializations. Specializations can be earned by demonstrating skills in a very specific area of a particular sub-team. Specializations, similar to Qualifications, can be earned at different levels depending on a student's skill set. These levels include Skilled, Independent, and Leader. Requirements for the different levels of qualifications will include earning Specializations within the content area.
Students must also earn the Team 102 Qualification to demonstrate their progress as a member of the team.
Team & Subteam Qualifications
The general and subteam qualifications and levels are defined in these pages.
Specializations
Specializations can be earned in almost any area of work we do on the team, they are included under each of the qualification subdivisions.
