Leadership
Leadership comes in all different forms, and not always where we expect it. A person does not need to hold an official title to be considered a leader. There are plenty of opportunities for someone to step up as a leader in their everyday life. Students who complete this Specialization will gain some insight into what makes a good leader.
- List all of the leadership positions on Team 102 and how they interact with each other.
- Think about the leaders you have had the opportunity to work with in the past.
- Identify something you liked about their leadership style.
- Identify something you disliked about their leadership style.
- Discuss each with an Advisor and describe why you feel that way.
- Find a resource where you can learn more about being an effective leader. This can be a book, podcast, YouTube Channel, website, or blog. Review some of the content in that resource and describe some of the main points of their approach to leadership. Do you agree with their ideas? Discuss with an Advisor.
- Think about a time when you felt you were at your best as a leader. Note: it is not necessary that you hold an official title in your scenario. Discuss the following with an Advisor:
- How did you end up in this role?
- What are some of the challenges you faced?
- Why do you think you view this to be you at your best?
- What did you do or not do to be successful?
- What are some things you learned from this experience?
- Think about what another person might say about your leadership abilities, both positive and negative. Discuss with an Advisor how you might consider feedback from others to improve as a leader.
- Meet with 3 different people who currently hold a leadership position. At least one of them should be an adult.
- Discuss with them the role they hold and the kinds of responsibilities they have.
- Ask them about some of the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.
- Discuss your findings with an Advisor.
- Do ONE of the following:
- Hold a leadership position on the team or in another organization. Discuss with an Advisor the position and some of the responsibilities associated with it. Also, discuss some of the challenges you faced while in the position.
- Take the lead role on a project within the robotics team. Coordinate the tasks associated with the project and provide team leadership with updates on itsprogress. Share your experience with an Advisor.
