CNC

We often find that custom parts are necessary for our success. With the resources that we have available, it is common for our team to create our own parts in the CNC machine. Students working towards this specialization will be able to set up material in the machine, program the machine, and be aware of all the safety risks involved.

Skilled Level:

  • SAFETY
  • Earn CAD Specialization at the Skilled level
  • Knows how to load material into the CNC machine
  • Understands our file naming conventions
  • Demonstrate the ability to zero the xy.
  • Demonstrate the ability to zero the z axis.
  • Be able to export a 3D model from onshape and import it into Fusion 360.
  • Demonstrate how to select and start a file on the machine.
  • Be able to cut stock to the right size and secure it into the cnc machine.
  • Demonstrate how to clean the cnc machine
  • When should the e stop be used? What will it do compared to using the off button?
  • Why is coolant needed for aluminum but not plastic and wood?

Independent Level:

  • Earn CAD Specialization at the Independent level
  • Demonstrate how to change end mills on the machine.
  • Be able to arrange and program parts in CAM Software
  • Show an understanding of speeds and feeds on the CNC machine

Leader Level:

  • Earn CAD Specialization at the Leader level
  • What factors are used to determine the feeds and speeds of a cut?
  • Be able to guide students through the skilled level of the CNC specialization
  • Run programs unsupervised from CAM to finished part
