Mechanical Qualifications

Basic Level

  • Earn the Hand Tool Specialization of the Independent Level
  • Earn the Power Tool Specialization at the Independent Level
  • Earn the Fabrication Specialization at the Skilled Level
  • Be able to list at least 5 Robot Rules from this year's Game Manual that you think are important.
  • Participate in Tool Safety Training.
  • Assist in the completion of at least ONE project where you do ALL of the following:
    • Use two different power tools
    • Use two different hand tools
    • Show understanding of tape measures and squares for measuring.

Advanced Level

  • Earn the Fabrication Specialization at the Independent Level
  • Earn the CAD Specialization at the Skilled Level
  • Identify tools to be used for each piece of hardware.
  • Demonstrate ability to solve basic technical design challenges. Share with a mentor an example of this that stood out to you and why.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper usage of tools.

Expert Level

  • Earn the Hand Tool Specialization at the Leader Level
  • Earn the Power Tool Specialization at the Leader Level
  • Earn the CAD Specialization at the Independent Level
  • Earn the Fabrication Specialization at the Independent Level
  • Earn ONE of the following Specializations at the Independent Level:
  • Be able to lead a tool safety training
  • Know vendors that are used for common parts
  • Assist another student in earning the Basic Level mechanical qualification
  • Assist another student in earning the Advanced Level mechanical qualification
  • Be actively involved in the design process of a competition robot.
